Kingston Police Details 160 GB Theft From 2025 Breach

Kingston Police’s 2 October 2026 notice details a 2025 breach. Compromised account credentials enabled VPN access on 1 January. Police detected it on 3 January. By shutdown, systems had been encrypted and 160 GB extracted.

After duplicates and junk were removed, about 100,000 documents remained. Corruption forced an incomplete review using a representative sample.

Records covered court, remand, victims, witnesses, missing people, employees and officers. Some files held driving licence, Social Insurance, payment card, health card or passport numbers.

Police say the attacker promised deletion and proof; no disclosure has been found. Copies cannot be ruled out; permanent record loss remains under review.

Police suggest account and credit checks, relevant issuer contact and phishing vigilance for potentially affected people.
