Node 26: Alpine x64 Tier 2

Check exact prerequisites and release policy.

Node 26.11.0 gives Alpine x64 Tier 2 at kernel >= 6.12 and musl >= 1.2.5; Alpine 3.22 is the example.

What changes

Tier 2 maintains full test infrastructure: failures block releases; infrastructure can delay binaries.

Teams still need to verify package provenance, native modules, application behaviour and the deployed build.

It proves neither an official musl artefact nor commercial entitlement.

Keep compatibility and approval separate

Node 26 is Current, not LTS. Production guidance: Active or Maintenance LTS.

Treat compatibility evidence and production approval as separate records. Passing one review does not complete the other.

Verify the running combination

BlackTree recommends:

  • Capture the running environment. Store observed system values with the deployment record.
  • Trace the package origin. Keep the image, repository and build pipeline in the same record.
  • Exercise native dependencies. Test add-ons, cryptographic functions, observability agents and start-up paths in the deployed build.
  • Record production approval separately. Confirm the organisation’s major-release policy before adoption.

Coverage and dates

Proposed 3 June; landed 24 September; backported 6 October; release/tag 7 October; retrieval 8 October 2026.

At that retrieval, BlackTree Lifecycle had no exact Node.js 26 record. The generic Node.js discovery and Node.js 22 record are not substitutes, so the authoritative Node sources below control this treatment.
