Updated 29 August 2026: KB5120998 is an optional preview update for Windows 11 24H2 and 25H2. Microsoft’s official release notes still say the company is not aware of any issues with the update. That statement now sits beside multiple user reports of cursor changes, black wallpaper and degraded text rendering, plus a Feedback Hub response saying Microsoft has received the cursor complaints and is investigating.
Evidence update: credible reports, uncertain scope
The evidence does not show that every installation is affected. Windows Latest said its own test system did not reproduce the cursor or wallpaper problems, and several users also reported no regressions. This is therefore a recovery guide for affected PCs, not a recommendation to uninstall the update from machines that are working normally. Organisations should pause broad deployment, test representative hardware and monitor Microsoft’s release-health information.

Stap 1: open het Startmenu

Stap 2: open Instellingen

Stap 6: zoek KB5120998
Zoek in de lijst naar het exacte nummer KB5120998. Controleer het nummer rustig, cijfer voor cijfer.

Na het opnieuw opstarten
- Controleer of de muisaanwijzer weer normaal is.
- Controleer of de achtergrondfoto blijft staan.
- Controleer of tekst weer duidelijk leesbaar is.

When should you do this?

Look for the exact number KB5120998 in the list. Check the number carefully, one digit at a time.
